Are you prepared for ACI?
ACI, or the Advanced Commercial Information system, is an initiative of the Canada Customs Border Services Agency. It will require highway carriers to supply trade data a minimum of one hour before arrival at the border.
This data will be processed through a targeting tool to detect high-risk shipments. The ultimate goal of CBSA is to process all cargo & conveyance information prior to the shipment’s arrival at the first point of arrival in Canada. Any threats, examination and/or discrepancies will be dealt at that time, thereby preventing potentially high-risk goods from entering the country.
Carriers arriving without having complied with this requirement will be subject to significant delay and AMPS penalties.
How can A & A help?
While the earliest that the highway phase of ACI is expected is late 2006 carriers should not delay in establishing procedures and developing and electronic link to the CBSA.
A & A has significant experience dealing with the CBSA electronically and is in the process of developing software necessary to communicate the highway ACI information and receive verification messages.
A & A’s consulting group has considerable knowledge regarding ACI, CSA, FAST requirements for carriers.
